Movie clip – You Again, 2010
Marnie, who is now a PR pro delivers an inspirational speech to a group of junior publicists in their company. She recounts how miserable her high school life was; how she managed to change her perception of herself – and finally ending up in her present job.
Procedure:
Show students the first scene of the movie, You Again.
1. After watching the clip, ask some questions to check their comprehension of the story; ask them to talk about Marnie’s high school life using the form used to.
Possible answers:
She used to think that she was a loser but now she is a very successful career woman.
She used to be unattractive but now she’s very pretty.
2. Give students a few minutes to think about how their lives have changed since high school and have them write down the things that they used to do. Depending on the size of your class, you can either have students individually stand in front to talk about their high school life compared to their present college life or they may tell their stories in small groups.
